The ability to communicate strategic, technical, and financial information to a variety of constituents; persuade them to respond—and even change their behavior—requires essential skills.
Targeted to business officers, this webcast on May 18, Lessons Learned in Communicating Financial Information Effectively, will address the importance of developing key messaging, and setting appropriate learning outcomes when presenting complex information to a diverse group. Speakers will also address ways to present blended financial and nonfinancial information to audiences consisting of individuals with different professional backgrounds.
This distance learning event is being held in collaboration with the regional associations, CACUBO, EACUBO, SACUBO, and WACUBO, and will highlight the most essential elements from similar sessions that took place at each of the associations’ annual conferences in 2014.

Jacalyn Askin Joins NACUBO staff
Jacalyn Askin
Jacalyn Askin, who holds a doctorate in higher education finance, recently joined the NACUBO team. Askin will play a prominent role in the Economic Models Project, which is an initiative of NACUBO’s board to develop processes, tools, and a communications strategy to help member institutions navigate the difficult structural and cultural changes required to move to sustainable economic models.
Askin has extensive experience as a chief business officer in education administration and finance, and has worked at research universities, community colleges, and K–12 systems. Her responsibilities have included planning and budgeting, accounting and financial analysis, procurement, risk and contracts management, facilities construction and maintenance, human resources, public safety and emergency planning, marketing, lobbying and elections oversight, grants and auxiliary enter-prises, information technology, program and partnership development, and institutional research.
Askin has been active on several NACUBO and WACUBO councils, has served on the Planning and Budgeting workshop committee since 2012, and was the 2003 recipient of NACUBO’s Rising Star award.
Most recently, Askin served as vice president of administrative services at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Chandler, Ariz. Askin has taught managerial accounting as an adjunct faculty member and has presented extensively on finance, accounting, and project management.

The virtual component of the 2015 Student Financial Services (SFS) Conference will be available on April 6. The SFS conference, held March 22–24, in Atlanta, covers the policy, technical, and management issues affecting student financial services operations on campus.
